SOL#7 chocolate milk

It’s the simple things in life sometimes.

This morning I stood at the entry way near the breakfast table greeting students as the entered the building and reminding some (like I do everyday!!!) to grab a milk with their breakfast.

But today was different…

Enters the building looking not quite awake yet

Grabs a breakfast

Grabs a milk

Says good morning to me

Glances down

Exclaims “I got a chocolate milk!”

A few kids later, and the same scenario plays out

And again

And again

And again

The maintenance man was near me and mentioned that he was asked to start putting out some chocolate milk like the other schools.

We just stood there and laughed.

I am not exaggerating when I say we must have heard at least 30 kids perk up and exclaim they “got chocolate milk” like they had won the lottery.

My personal opinion is that chocolate milk on multigrain Cheerios doesn’t sound appealing to me in the least…but if that bag had some Cocoa Puffs…now you’re talkin’!

SOL#6 Cold Sheets

There is nothing as amazing as climbing into bed with cold, crisp sheets!

And that’s exactly what happens when you forgot you turned heat off and left your bedroom window cracked open…

SOL#4 A first… and hopefully a last!

361 miles each way

Normally five hours and 35 minutes

I’ve made this drive early in the morning.

I’ve made this drive in the middle of the day.

I’ve made this drive late at night.

I’ve made this drive alone.

I’ve made this drive with various passengers.

I’ve made this trip in the rain.

I’ve made this trip in the snow.

I’ve made this trip in the fog.

I’ve made this trip in an ice storm.

I’ve made this trip in the summer.

I’ve made this trip in the fall.

I’ve made this trip in the winter.

I’ve made this trip in the spring.

I’ve made this trip at least 50 times in the last few years.

And today… I make this trip with a bucket in my front seat.

You see, somewhere in the wee hours of the morning while most people are sleeping, I woke up violently ill. I laid back down for some time hoping it would pass… It hasn’t!

So while today is a first, I certainly hope it is a last!

Wish me luck!

SOL#3 Iced Tea

While I sit here in the local diner in a small town in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, I’m reminded of the small things living in a more populated area that we take for granted. Today that thing is iced tea!

You see…I don’t normally drink coffee up here. I know this is a surprising fact for many that know me. I’m kind of a coffee snob. So I make my coffee with my Keurig and bottled water. When I go out to breakfast, I’ll usually look for something else with caffeine, but try to avoid soda at this hour. So iced tea it is! Except…it’s not! In the Northwoods of Wisconsin apparently the think iced tea is strictly a summer drink. Hmmmm?

SOL#1 Ahhhhh! March already?

I knew this day was coming…I just didn’t expect it to be so soon!

It’s the first day of the 2018 Slice of Life Writing Challenge…I just didn’t expect it to be so soon!

Rachel’s 8th grade graduation picture proofs came home a few weeks ago…she’s graduating…I just didn’t expect it to be so soon!

The construction deadline on the lake house is coming in the next few months…I just didn’t expect it to be so soon!

The school year is more than half over…I just didn’t expect it to be so soon!
